Wegmans to Sponsor
Azalea Classic Pro-Am Invitational

Prince William County, VA, March 16, 2010 – Wegmans has signed on as the presenting sponsor of the Azalea Classic Pro-Am Invitational, May 2-3 at the Piedmont Club in Haymarket, Virginia, focusing community support for Special Olympics, Aid for Wounded Warriors and more.

The two-day event begins on Sunday, May 2 with the Special Olympics Golf Day, where area Special Olympics Golf athletes will team up with golf professionals, sponsors and volunteers from area high school golf teams for a players’ clinic and golf tournament.  On Monday, May 3, golf professionals throughout the Middle Atlantic will compete for a purse, alongside amateurs competing for prizes in the Azalea Classic Pro-Am Invitational, one of the top three pro-am purses in the Middle Atlantic Professional Golfers Association.

Mike Dempsey, Wegmans Store Manager in Gainesville, stated, “We were pleased with our involvement last year with the Azalea Classic, where our employees had an opportunity to participate with local Special Olympians.  We are excited to be partnering up again this year and we believe that the event will be an even greater success at Piedmont in 2010.  With six Wegmans’ grocery stores in Northern Virginia, our support of this event, shares the passions that Azalea Charities contribute to year around.  We are proud of their support of our communities’ needs and we feel that the Azalea Classic offers up a great opportunity to have fun with the Olympians while generating funds for the many charitable causes that they support.”

Additional sponsors for the two-day event, now in its tenth year of benefitting Boys & Girls Clubs, Special Olympics, Homeless Shelters, Leukemia/Lymphoma, Juvenile Diabetes, Education and Wounded Warriors and their families are welcome.  Contact Azalea Charities Chairman and Founder Frank E.
