Azalea Classic History

The idea for Azalea Charities originated with Frank Lasch and Larry Pergerson, who organized a telethon in October 1997 to benefit the Girl Scouts, Boys & Girls Clubs, local homeless shelters and other community groups. The next spring, Lasch and Pergerson organized a charity golf tournament on a golf course resplendent with azaleas in bloom. The Azalea Classic Pro-Am Invitational Golf Classic was inaugurated in April 1999, with the support of two major sponsors, developer Dean Morehouse and banker Gary Martin. This tournament has been a cornerstone of Azalea Charities’ fund-raising efforts ever since.
